Hippie Lane: My Favorite Dessert App Now Features Appetizers and Main Courses

Last summer I blogged frequently about Hippie Lane, an app I use frequently for healthy dessert ideas. I originally downloaded the app last year, because it was chock full of gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan options for raw and baked desserts.

Recently the app showcased two new recipe bundles for purchase. I put off purchasing them for a while because I had already paid $3.99 or so for the app— worth every penny!

Eventually the app’s owner @talinegabriel posted gorgeous, inspiring, and mouthwatering images of the recipes in the new bundles. I decided to purchase the “Nourish and Glow” and “Rise and Shine” pack for about $1.50 each— again, worth every penny.

Initially dessert-oriented, the app is now super well-rounded for all meals and times of day. Here are the recipes I’ve cooked so far:



I ate this refreshing quinoa tabouleh one night for dinner and the next day for lunch. At dinner I just ate straight out of the mixing bowl with a fork on the couch. I ate so much of it, and it was so refreshing thanks to the parsley, mint, and lemon juice.

Pictured here is how I ate the quinoa the next day for lunch. I had a fresh green salad topped with the Vitamin B-12 packed basil hummus recipe from The Plantpower Way. The Plantpower Way is my hardcopy food Bible I keep in my kitchen, whereas Hippie Lane is my eFoodBible I have on my phone with me wherever I go!

I’m thinking this quinoa tabouleh would be a great appetizer at a brunch or book club. I also see myself bringing it in a basket for a picnic in Golden Gate park. I literally haven’t done that since Shane’s birthday picnic next to the GGP frisbee gold course in 2014, so it’s time to do that again.

These came out so delicious! I bought sourdough bread for Shane’s, and I ate mine on top of a fresh green salad. The recipe yielded about 10 patties baked in the oven. I ate two in the first sitting, and then I brought a bunch to work the next day and ate three for lunch! They were great spread with hummus, and the lime avocado dip I usually make. The little white dots in the photo are quinoa in the patties! These patties are huge on flavor brimming with onion, parsley, sea salt, pepper, cumin, paprika, and turmeric!

Since I don’t make beef burger patties, ground turkey is usually my go-to. However, that gets boring, since we have ground turkey once weekly when I make tacos! These vegan patties will be a delicious new staple in my kitchen!



I’ve made this four times already, and it is the most satisfying, delicious, and energizing smoothie bowl! It’s packed with protein thanks to the peanut butter, and I’ve been dusting with hemp seeds for an extra protein punch (not pictured here). If you’re obsessed with bananas, which I sure am, the smoothie uses two full bananas, and then I top with even more banana slices. Buckwheat groats create yummy crunch for this glorious chocolate soup. I’ve eaten this as breakfast and as a mid-afternoon snack when I’ve needed to refuel again pre-yoga. I also see how this could be a great refuel immediately after yoga, too!

Next on my cooking list from the Hippie Lane app will be the baked falafel, garlic and thyme mushrooms, and quinoa porridge for breakfast. It looks like they are coming out with another recipe pack called “Let’s Party,” and if it’s within the same price range (less than 2 dollars!), I’ll buy it! This app has provided a lot of guidance and inspiration on my gluten-free and dairy-free journey!
