Gluten-Free, Raw, and Vegan Sweet Treats

Earlier this summer I wrote about the Hippie Lane healthy dessert app. Ever since eliminating gluten and dairy from my diet, I was missing out on desserts. Through this app I learned about the healthy ingredients involved in raw and vegan desserts. It was so refreshing to purge the bad stuff like refined sugars out of the pantry. I’ve now made six of the Hippie Lane recipes, and I can’t wait to branch out into the dessert cakes.

Worth mentioning is that I have often eaten Hippie Lane treats directly before yoga class. No problem, since these desserts are based on fruits, nuts, and natural fats. They’ve given me the energy pick-me-up I often need right before class. On the flip side, I’ve never seen anyone go airborne into flying crow after inhaling a Krispy Kreme.

More importantly, everyone knows how obsessed I am with taking pictures of foods— these sweet treats make for gorgeous photographs!

Peanut Butter Swirl Cookies


I approach these cookies as a meal because they are so rich. The coconut in the biscuit makes them really hearty, and the peanut butter packs protein and slow-burning fats. These paired great with my kale juice for the day. It was the perfect pre-yoga snack.



The “Raweos” (raw Oreos) are my absolute favorite on the app. I think back to the crazy amounts of Oreos I used to eat when I was little. I could eat a whole row of them- all white sugars and chemicals. Now I eat one of these giant Raweos every night after dinner without a second thought when I have them in the fridge. After all, it’s just nuts, dates, coconut oil, and natural sweeteners. No preservatives, no chemicals, no high fructose corn syrup!

Something to keep in mind when making raw desserts is to plan ahead. I have to remember to soak the cashews for at least two hours before I want to make raweos; this is what makes the creamy texture of the cream filling!

Almond Butter Cups


I prefer these over the traditional Reese’s peanut butter cup. The almond butter flavor is earthier, and it’s a game changer when you find out how simple it is to make your own chocolate. The chocolate mixture for the outer layers forms surprisingly quickly after about 10 minutes in the fridge. I had fun layering the ingredients in the cupcake tins— these would make for a fun activity for a cooking group or children’s birthday party. They are ready after just a few more minutes firming up in the fridge.

Go ahead and buy the Hippie Lane app already! If you’ve been missing out on the joy of desserts due to a restricted diet, this may be the app to save your dessert life!
