3 Cheap Hotels Near Madrid’s Best Food Spots

Historically, Madrid isn’t considered an eating destination, but luckily for foodies, that has changed a lot recently. The future of Madrid’s food scene looks brighter still, as well-known chefs continue to move into the city from all around Spain, fusing their own style with Madrid’s traditional fare. Madrid’s Michelin-rated Santceloni in the north of the city is arguably its most renowned restaurant, but it doesn’t appear on this list. Its price range exceeds the typical budgets of many travelers, and it takes you too far away from the sights of downtown. Here are three cool hotels closest to Madrid’s top-rated restaurants, all within a reasonable budget.

1. Room Mate Mario Hotel Near Mercado de San Miguel

Upon arriving in Madrid, head to the heart of downtown and check yourself into Room Mate Mario. Starting at $151 a night, you’re just a five-minute walk from Mercado de San Miguel off of Plaza Mayor. Sample tapas, or pinxtos, with various world-famous olives from Spain, as you weave through the maze of friendly vendors. After this initial sampling, you may realize that your heart is set entirely on tapas during your travels. In this case, check out Hipmunk’s site for cheap hotels in Madrid in the La Latina neighborhood, or book yourself a Madrid tapas tour on Excursiopedia. Keep the Room Mate hotel chain in mind for your next trip to Madrid, as there are three other locations in Madrid: Room Mates Laura, Oscar, and Alicia, all sporting their own flair by top Spanish interior designers.

2. Melia Madrid Princesa Near La Musa

Staying at Melia Madrid Princesa, starting at $156 a night, gets you right near La Musa in Malasana. It is a hip place to eat tapas and engage in a more club-like atmosphere as you enjoy the modern decor and cool music in the background. Reserve ahead of time, as hipsters will wait hours to get their hands on La Musa’s barbecue and Asian-themed tapas served up Spanish-style. If the fun atmosphere gets you in the mood for a late night, you’re not too far from Chueca’s bars and clubs.

3. TRYP Madrid Atocha Hotel Near Vi Cool

Foodies visiting Madrid will want to visit one of chef Sergi Arola’s gems. Unfortunately his famous eponymous location in Chamberí often breaks the budget. Fortunately for those wanting to stay near the downtown action, you can check out Vi Cool, where you can sample some of Arola’s main courses for under 20 EUR. Staying at Wyndham’s TRYP Madrid Atocha Hotel will keep you in the mix, starting at $112. You’ll not only be close to Vi Cool and Madrid’s sights, but also near the Puerta de Atocha train station.

What to do when you’re not busy eating?

You can’t spend your entire time in Madrid eating. Okay, you can spend most of your time eating, but if you need help filling up the rest of your time, consider booking yourself a tour on Vayable, a great site offering sightseeing tours in Madrid. ¡Buen viaje!
