Top 5 Hotels in Madrid

Madrid’s most expensive hotels, such as the The Ritz* and The Westin Palace,* don’t make this list, as their prices aren’t realistic for most travelers. The hotels on this list all have two things in common: They boast strategic locations throughout the city, and there’s something unique about each one that makes it a stand out hotel in Madrid.

1. Rooftop Bar Situated on Prime Real Estate

Hotel ME Madrid Reina Victoria* takes the No. 1 slot on this list due to its mind-blowing location on historic Plaza de Santa Ana. The hotel has capitalized on its real estate with a trendy rooftop bar, now one of Madrid’s most popular locations to have a cocktail and take in the city’s panoramic views. Despite the hotel’s modern interior design, its unique history persists. During the original Gran Hotel Reina Victoria museum’s renovation, the developers maintained the façade to reflect the city’s historic architecture.

2. Modern Hotel Overlooking the Thyssen Museum

Hotel Urban* is just a five-minute walk from the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. Take in the guest rooms’ Asian artwork, which belongs to the museum in the hotel’s basement. Take the glass elevator up to the rooftop pool with accompanying sunroom before indulging at one of the four on-site bars and restaurants.

3. Architectural Masterpiece Near the Airport

Revelers keep the party going all night in the Jean Nouvel Penthouse at Silken Puerta América before catching a morning flight. The architectural enthusiast in your group will remember Puerta América for its exclusive design. Entire floors of the hotel were assigned to some of the world’s most renowned designers, like Zaha Hadid, for them to run wild with their creations.

4. A Gimmick That Works!

Situated just two blocks north of Gran Vía, Room Mate Óscar is within walking distance to Madrid’s main sights. Óscar is the most centrally located of the Room Mate hotel group, which includes other Madrid locations like Laura, Mario, and Alicia, and was a project of Spanish interior designer Tomás Alía. On top of its amazing location, Óscar boasts a rooftop terrace and swimming pool.

5. Pint-Sized Comfort in the Heart of La Latina

Boutique hotel La Posada del Dragón is footsteps away from popular tapas bar Cava Baja. Eat your fill in La Latina’s curvy alleyways before curling up in your snug bed. Some of Posada del Dragón’s rooms are so narrow that the walls come almost up to the bed, but at this hotel smaller is better. Posada del Dragón has undergone a restoration since its construction in the 1800s. It’s held on to the historic floor plan, and rooms are now decorated with bold colors, funky patterns, and varying textures.
