Santiago, Chile, part 1

There are a lot of places to stay, lots to eat, and lots to do in Santiago; this barely scratches the surface. But these are the most memorable parts of our visit here.

1) WHERE WE STAYED:

We stayed at Hostal Plaza de Armas, right on, well, Plaza de Armas. Depending on your dorm room you will pay $15 or $16 USD per night. If you know me well, this price gave me a heart attack, as I am used to paying about 3 bucks in Central America. It was hard to get over this. Actually I still havent recovered from the shock. The metro stop was below the hostel´s balcony which was very convenient. The view from the wine-drinking balcony was great.

Plaza de Armas was always busy with street performers. It was fun to watch from the square and from the balcony.

I mentioned wine above. We spent $3 per bottle on bottom of the line but decent Cabernet Sauvignons from Chiles own wine regions. We liked Concha y Toro the best. Santa Catalina and Gato Negro are other supercheap options at any supermarket.

P.S. It is so nice to have a travel companion. Now my pictures have a friend in them!
