It looks like another planet at Arches National Park, Utah.

Take a look at my previous post about US national parks that make you feel as if you are no longer on Earth: Otherworldly Landscapes.

I does seem to resemble what people would consider other planets ‘Landscape”. Karen and I went to Alaska a couple of years ago and during the cruise, we did an excursion out of Skagway. The excursion was a jeep and off road experience to the “Yukon” of Canada. After crossing the border, the road goes through this desolate area almost completely void of trees except for these small shrubs. We thought they were small shrubs, maybe a couple feet tall at their tallest. Our guide, who broadcasted the trip entirely over a CB, to the group which, if my memory is able to recall, 7 jeeps with at least two occupants in each, said those are actually trees who have adapted to growing here. This area gets such powerfull winds due to its physical location (valley in between moutains and almost an westerly to easterly direction) that anything tall well not survive here. Pools of water all over the place yet nothing capable of surviving in the water (apparently low oxygen content), very rocky. Some of these small trees are attached to the rocks and survive and are as old as I.

Bill, if you have any pictures from that jaunt, I would love to see them!
