Granada, Nicaragua. Reason #4! Location, location, location (geographically and culturally)

Granada has the perfect location. It sits on the northwestern shore of Lake Nicaragua and is less than an hour by taxi from Managua, so it is easy to get there if taking long busses from other countries’ capital cities. I came from San Salvador. You are less than an hour by bus to Masaya (read: two markets). If you leave in the morning by bus down towards Rivas, you’ll be on Isla Ometepe by lunch time, hiking up the volcanoes. In Granada you are about a half hour from the beautiful Laguna de Apoyo where I spent an afternoon kayaking.

Check out the long-armed shot. I loved traveling by myself. There’s no word to express the freedom of it.

When you’re in Granada you have Costa Rica and Panama south of you and Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras to the north. But even beyond the geography, after a few days in Granada, you understand what it means to be in the heart of Central America.

In Granada you are in the heart of Central America and the people have such tremendous heart that you feel their heart as well. It truly is a special place.
