Marisa LaValette teaches middle school Spanish at Menlo School in Atherton, California, and is the faculty advisor for the middle school Girls’ Leadership club. She studied languages at The Pingry School while growing up in New Jersey and then continued on to major in German and minor in Arabic at Georgetown University’s school of Language and Linguistics. 2 more great things about DR so far:

1. The food:

The food has been out of this world– plaintains, corn fritters, fried chicken, rice and beans, flan! And the best part is that the Coke is sweeter and all around better! Basically, Coke is better in any country outside of the US where they are not using processed sugar. Here in DR they are using the real good stuff.

2. The views:

This view from the swing set is the Dominican variation on Monet’s japanese bridge.

These horses hang out on the other side of the bridge.

Kayley and Cayce play in the river in their Rustic Pathways t-shirts just as the sun begins to set.
